‘Saddle Club’ recreates the look and feel of an Argentinian polo club for a contemporary beachfront residence set across four storeys. The client’s request was to create a house where their three teenage daughters would remain beyond their school years. The design aesthetic is based around the idea of a small smart private hotel with different floor denoting different zones.
We begin with an arrival experience followed by the sense of moving through the spacious informal spaces that made up the ground floor living, then upstairs to a “club floor”, which is designated as the parents’ living and accommodation zone, and then onto the true resort moment with the home’s amazing rooftop pool with spectacular views across the city and bay. There is also a basement level which we transformed into a downstairs bar and movie room.
Our desired aesthetic was for a luxurious environment with a strong preference for velvet, leather and timber in soft textures and tones. Our colour palette layered muted blues and greens to introduce a sense of richness and intimacy. Wool rugs, natural materials and artworks were used to ‘layer’ the space and to bring in warmth and texture to offset the coldness of the stone walls and floors. This project transformed what was initially vast and imposing spaces into a relaxed, sophisticated and warm ‘forever’ home for a family of five.
